12-Aug-2003: First Mailing List Transmission  We have finally started to contact fans who've signed our book at our show, and today we sent our first message to those who've supplied E-mail address. It reads:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello, Whirly Jig fans! This is our first mailing list transmission.

You are receiving this E-mail message because someone (hopefully you)
put your name and E-mail address into our Mailing List book at one of
our shows (likely at the Colorado Renaissance Festival this year).

If you do not wish to be on the Whirly Jig mailing list, simply reply
to this message and let us know and we'll take you off poste haste,
with apologies for the inconvenience.

Also, since it seems to be in web fashion these days to do legalese,
pretend you've just read about fourteen really boring paragraphs of
stuff about how we're not going to knowingly give, sell or share your
contact information with anybody else.

Okay, down to the business at hand:

1. THING-A-MA-JIG LIMITED EDITION RELEASE

For some of you, this is old news, as some of you left us a phone
number or came by on the last weekend of the Colorado Ren Faire to
pick up your CDs. For the rest of you -- IT'S HERE!!!

That's right, Thing-a-ma-Jig, our debut album, is out. We have a
Limited Edition run of 100 numbered copies. 14 tracks, 61 minutes,
and it can all be yours for a mere $15 (including tax). :-)

Our online sales engine isn't running yet, so we have to do this the
old-fashioned way. If you'd like to purchase the CD, send us a check
or money order:

     ($15 payable to Pendar Productions)

     Pendar Productions
     P.O. Box 49221
     Colorado Springs, CO 80949-9221

Don't forget to send us a current mailing address, since not everyone
left one in the book.

We'll cover the shipping costs for this Limited Edition release.

Once the Limited Edition is gone, we plan to release the Regular
Edition. However, since the booklet for the Regular Edition is
actually bigger than the Limited Edition booklet (it includes lyrics
as well as band chatter about the songs), we've agreed to send anyone
holding a Limited Edition of the CD a free copy of the Regular Edition
booklet once they're available.

For those who order the Limited Edition via postal mail, we'll track
which one we've sent you and simply send you the new booklet when it's
available. For those who already have their CDs, you'll have to
contact us. Be sure to tell us which number you have, since that's
how we'll be tracking which free Regular Edition booklet offers have
been honored. "Offer your honor, and honor your offer". '-)

2. WE ARE ONLINE

Feel free to visit our web site or drop us E-Mail:

Any comments, suggestions, critiques or just general chatter are all
welcome.

3. NO KANSAS CITY

We put in a very last-minute bid to perform at the Kansas City
Renaissance Festival, and they did need more music for this year's
show to fill out their stage slots. Unfortunately, what was left in
their budget was insufficient to cover our costs to do the show. So
we won't be performing at KCRF this year, which was Annie & Steve's
favorite show when their previous band, Greencastle, was on the road.

We'll just have to spend that time working on our second album.

4. NEW ALBUMS PLANNED

We will be starting work on our second album, "Sailor's Jig", pretty
much immediately. Again shooting for about an hour's worth of music,
the focus of the album will be songs which involve sailing. Thus far
we are considering such songs as "Thousands are Sailing", "The
Mermaid", "Drunken Sailor", "Fiddler's Green", "Spanish Ladies", "The
Mingulay Boat Song", "The Forgetful Sailor", "When I Was A Fair Maid",
"Winds of Change", "Dark Eyed Sailor", "Laddie By The Bay", "Two
Foolish Captains", and "Todd Anderson".

We will not begin work on the third album until the second one is
complete (a lesson learned whilst producing Thing-a-ma-Jig). However,
the plan is to call it "Jiggers & Pints" and the theme will be
drinking songs. Songs being considered include "Glass of Ale", "In
Heaven There Ain't No Beer", "Johnny Jump Up", "Whiskey Before
Breakfast", "Whiskey In The Jar", "The Scotsman", "Three Drunken
Maidens", "Whiskey You're The Devil", "A Jug Of This", "Rothsea-O",
"Seven Nights Drunk", and "The Moonshiner".

5. LOCAL GIGS

We don't have anything specific lined up (Ken in particular has been
chomping at the bit to get us "out there"), but with the grueling job
of Ren Faire now comfortably behind us (until next year), we're ready
to start trying to be a real band. We'll keep you posted. We've got
a few nibbles, but of course the devil is in the details, and as yet
we do not have so much as a handshake deal with anyone.

6. PARTING SHOT

Finally, thanks to all of you for dropping by and listening to our
show. In the end, it is that all-too-brief interaction that makes
doing music (and us putting up with each other) worth it. For those
of you who have performed, you know what we mean. To steal the words
of a friend who has performed on Broadway, "Paychecks are nice and
Billing is EVERYTHING, but you live for the applause." It lets us
know that our work is appreciated, and no doubt makes our Egos a
little harder to control. :-) But the moment you make that oh-so-
elusive "contact" with someone in the audience, you'd be willing to
play until your fingers bled and your voice went hoarse.

So thank you - all of you - for listening.

Warmly and Sincerely,
The Whirly Jigs - Ken, Melissa, Annie, and Steve
